Challenging Ben Cline in 2016

One of the lessons we learned from last year’s election for the 24th District House of Delegates seat is that many voters are simply unaware of how Del. Ben Cline works and votes against their best interests. So it was no surprise that Cline dodged several invitations to one-on-one debates with his Democratic opponent Ellen Arthur, where he might have been put on the spot for his record of putting the interests of his corporate contributors ahead of the interests of the people he is supposed to represent in the General Assembly.

I hope that starting this year, we will keep a very close watch on Ben Cline’s legislative activities, and do our best to make the general public aware whenever he fails to stand up for them. A large part of this effort will involve letters to the editors of The Lexington News-Gazette and The Rockbridge Advocate.

If you are willing to be part of a letter-writing team, please let me know. I will be happy to provide you with background on any issues of interest to you. and to suggest possible topics for letters as the legislative session that begins January 13 continues. I will be tracking Del. Cline’s record (bills introduced, votes on legislation) closely.

Del. Cline is holding a Town Hall meeting for his constituents on Tuesday, January 5, 7 p.m., at the Rockbridge Regional Library in Lexington. Of course as one of his constituents, you are welcome to attend– not to be disruptive, but to listen and to ask questions politely as you see fit.

Best wishes for the New Year.
